I was disappointed in Suzanne Enoch’s “One Hot Scot” story, I have read her books in the past and really quite enjoyed them. I found that the plot did not revolve around “Christmas,” which I had expected. The story also seemed to drag on, and lack any Christmas feel.
“Once Upon a Christmas Scandal” by Alexandra Hawkins
Lady Ellen has the desire to marry, that is, until her father, who is dying, has gone ahead without Lady Ellen’s permission and upped her dowry in hopes getting Lady Ellen married by Christmas. Lady Ellen is furious by her father’s decision to force her to get married to a man who only wants to marry her for the large dowry.
With everyone arriving for Christmas and staying at Lady Ellen’s families home, Lady Ellen must figure out how she is to avoid marriage. Marriage is going to be the least of Lady Ellen’s worries once a dashing stranger arrives at her families home and immediately sets Lady Ellen’s heart a race. This dashing stranger will also inform her that she is in danger by a man who just happened to murder her sister, and could possibly be trying to do it again.
Lady Ellen is going to cause quite the scandal this Christmas, but first she must try and stay out of harms way. Will Lady Ellen be married by Christmas, or will harm come to the Netherley’s home just in time for Christmas?
Once again Alexandra Hawkins delivers up a novel full of suspense and romance wrapped into the perfect gift for Christmas.
“The Scandal Before Christmas” by Elizabeth Essex
Lieutenant Ian Worth has just been told that his brother, who is the current Duke of the family, has been severely injured and may not make it through to Christmas. Ian immediately realizes that he might have to step up and become the next Duke. Ian does not want to take on this responsibly. Ian’s father is a demanding man, and he always gets what he wants. Ian’s father has told him that he is to find a wife, and marry her by Christmas or there will be consequences.
Ian is in one heck of a predicament, he has to try and find a wife soon as possible so he does not have to deal with his controlling father. Ian also hopes that his brother will get better so he can resume being Duke. Ian comes up with an idea and asks one of the sailors on his boat, Mr. Lesley, if he would introduce him to one of his daughters. Mr. Lesley agrees, and introduces Ian to his eldest daughter, Anne. When Ian meets Anne, Lesley is quite shocked with what he sees standing in front of him. She is one of the plainest looking women, wearing the ugliest brown dress he has ever seen! Ian also soon learns that Anne Lesley barely says anything at all, and starts to wonder if this was a big mistake.
Anne Lesley may be plain on the outside, by she is far from plain on the inside. Anne Lesley will show Ian Worth what its like to live and enjoy life, and learn to stand up to his father. Christmas is going to get very hot under the mistletoe this year for Ian Worth and Anne Lesley!
“It Happened Under the Mistletoe” by Valerie Bowman
O liver Townsende, the Duke Of Markingham, is trying to avoid every single debutant at his close friends Christmas party, especially Lady Selina, who will stop at nothing to make Oliver her man. Oliver has had enough of this “cat and mouse game” and makes a run for it in an attempt to hide from all the unwanted attention and stalkers. Oliver decides to hide out in the silver polish closet, but soon realizes that he is not the only one running from stalkers like himself.
Miss Cerian Blake has been invited to her cousins Christmas Party along with her mother, who hears that there is going to be a dashing duke at the party. Cerian’ mom is hoping the the Duke picks her daughter so she can tell all her friends that her daughter now has a title. Cerian Blake has no interest in marrying a man with a title or money, she would rather marry for true love. Little does Cerian know that this dashing Duke is far from snobbish like all the other Dukes. This Duke is smart, charming and not to mention drop dead gorgeous, and who just happens to be trying to rid himself of stalkers and unwanted attention like poor Cerian. Cerian too is tired of all these single bachelors trying to vie for her attention.
Cerian Blake and Oliver Townsende both do want to be chased by the single people of the ton, and really want nothing to do with the upper ton. Cerian and Oliver will unite and come up with a plan to act like they are an item to stop all the attention on themselves, but attention is just what they will get when a scandalous rumor will spread that these two are more then just an item. Sparks and mistletoe is in store for Miss Cerian Blake and O liver Townsende, the Duke Of Markingham, in “It Happened Under the Mistletoe” by Valerie Bowman.
